Retail with real foot traffic

A tourist town moves a lot of unfamiliar people through small rooms. Shrink here is rarely a staff problem and almost always a volume problem, and the cameras that catch it are the ones covering the register, the display cases, the fitting or tasting area, and the doorway at a height that captures faces on the way in rather than backs on the way out.

Jewelry, art, and specialty retail need identification-grade coverage on the case itself, not a wide shot of the room. One correctly placed camera at the display outperforms four in the ceiling corners.

Back of house matters as much: the stock room, the rear delivery door, and the office where the safe and the register drawer live. Those are also the doors most worth putting on access control.

Mounting inside a design standard

Half-timbered facades, wooden trim, tile, and a town-wide architectural expectation mean you cannot simply run conduit across an elevation and bolt a white dome to it. Some buildings also carry restrictions on what can be penetrated at all.

The work is finding interior positions shooting through glass with the reflection managed, soffit and eave mounts that stay out of the sightline, cable paths through existing penetrations, and housings finished to disappear against dark wood. Guest privacy has to be designed in. Cameras cover entries, corridors, parking, and service areas and are deliberately not placed where guests have a reasonable expectation of privacy. That boundary belongs in the coverage plan in writing.
