Cybersecurity in San Luis Obispo: an independent look alongside your IT provider
San Luis Obispo has plenty of IT companies. What it has fewer of is someone independent who reviews the setup, explains the risk in plain English and does not sell the fix.
San Luis Obispo. Remote first, on site by appointment from Lompoc.
A crowded IT market, and where an independent review fits
San Luis Obispo is the county seat and home to Cal Poly, so it has a deep bench of managed IT providers and computer shops. If you already have one, good. Keith Systems is not trying to take over your help desk or your monthly plan.
Where an outside reviewer helps is the question your IT provider is badly placed to answer: is what we have actually enough? A second set of eyes, with no product to sell and no contract to protect, can tell you that plainly, then hand the findings to whoever you want to fix them. See cybersecurity assessment vs managed IT.
Who calls from San Luis Obispo
- Medical, dental and therapy practices that know a HIPAA security risk analysis is required but have never had one written down. See HIPAA security risk analysis.
- Tax preparers, CPAs and bookkeepers facing the FTC Safeguards Rule and the written information security program it asks for. See the WISP guide for tax preparers.
- Law and professional offices filling out a cyber insurance questionnaire that asks about multi-factor authentication, backups and email security. See cyber insurance questionnaires.
- Wineries and tasting rooms from Edna Valley and beyond, where guest Wi-Fi, point-of-sale and the wine club database share one network.
- Small software and tech teams near Cal Poly that want a vulnerability disclosure program so researchers know how to reach them.
Example: an eight-person accounting office downtown
A small downtown firm has a managed IT provider, cloud email and a file share. Tax season is coming and the insurer's renewal form asks whether multi-factor authentication is on for every account, whether backups are tested, and whether there is a written security program.
An assessment for that office would check which accounts truly have multi-factor authentication, whether the backups have ever been restored, who can reach the client file share, and whether the guest Wi-Fi sits apart from the staff network. The result is a short written list the firm can hand to its IT provider, plus a draft of the WISP pieces the FTC Safeguards Rule asks for. Keith Systems does not replace the IT provider or the firm's attorney.

Questions
Before you call.
Do you replace our IT company?
No. Keith Systems does assessments, plans and readiness work, not monthly managed IT or a help desk. Most clients keep their IT provider and hand them the findings.
Will you come to San Luis Obispo?
Yes, by appointment. Many tasks are done remotely, and the first consult is a phone or video call.
Can you help with a HIPAA risk analysis for a small SLO practice?
Yes. Keith Systems writes the security risk analysis the HIPAA Security Rule requires, on site where it matters, alongside your IT vendor and any risk-analysis tool you already use. It supports your compliance program but is not legal advice.
